NORTHPIC - Hubert Hofer

Thursday Island

During the late 1800's & early 1900's when the shipping company Burns Philp was servicing the North they had their designated jetty out from the present TSRA offices. At low tide some remaining stumps from the former pylons still protrude from the reef flat.
If only today's authorities had the common sense to re-build such a jetty for the many dinghies that are now bashing against each other on the ill-placed pontoons adjacent to the highly congested Engineers jetty.

I have no recollection of how I came into possession of this photo.
