Zuizin (Halfway Island)

pronounced 'Zayzin' this island lies some 60 miles west of the Murray Islands & was given the english name by Captain Matthew Flinders in 1802 whilst circumnavigating & surveying the australian continent in the leaky INVESTIGATOR.
The survivors of the GOVERNOR READY spent a night here on 19 May 1829 before heading west towards the Arafura Sea.
Surgeon Wilson wrote in his journal that upon arriving at Halfway Island ' a fire was kindled and a pig, having found its way into the boats was prepared for dinner". 'The cook was busy in the exercise of his vocation".
