NORTHPIC - Hubert Hofer

SS FENSTANTON

The 3 metre propeller of the 300' (90m) long, 2400 ton cargo steamer FENSTANTON which left London 28 June 1884 for Melbourne. On her return voyage she was loaded at Newcastle with coal for Singapore. On 30 Sept 1884 she struck Moresby rock off Saddle Island (Ului) & despite huge efforts could not be floated off. Her stern now rests in 17 metres.
