Sassie

Looking NNE over Sassie towards Yam, the tiny Cap Island, the large Gebar (Gabba) beyond & Dauan (Cornwallis Is) barely discernible top right. Four kilometres beyond Dauan Is Papua New Guinea.
Yam Island is believed to be the "Isla de Caribes" (Island of Cannibals) from the Voyage of Lous Vaez de Torres in 1606.
The larger Gabba Island was given the name Gilboa by the writer Jules Verne in his classic novel "20,000 leagues beneath the Sea". Just south of Gabba is Mourilyian Reef on which the NAUTILUS was stranded for a few days in Verne's story.
